Lagu itu merupakan singel lanjutan dari lagu berjudul "Houdini" yang dirilis pada 2023, dan juga sama-sama masuk dalam album studio ketiga Dua Lipa "Radical Optimism" yang meluncur pada 3 Mei 2024.
Lagu "Training Season" berkisah tentang seorang wanita yang menolak menjalin ulang asmara yang penuh tantangan bersama pria yang baru, setelah pengalaman dengan pria yang tidak menyenangkan di masa lalu telah berakhir.
Lipa menulis lagu "Training Season" dan mengembangkannya bersama penulis lagu Inggris asal Norwegia Caroline Ailin, musisi Kanada Tobias Jesso Jr., serta produser dan komposer musik Inggris Danny L Harle.
