Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Many Indonesian youth now aware of importance of waste management in preserving the national resources.
Several senior state high school students in Jakarta had gathered recently to shared their insight about waste management in a Managing Waste Movement (GEMAS) workshop which took place in St. Belarmus High School Auditorium.
"I am concern about our next grandchild if the amount of garbage was increasing rapidly and we didn't manage it properly. If it so, I'am affraid my grandchild will not know what fish look like," Benedictus Bagas, student of Pangudi Luhur 1 senior high school student said.
The 12th grade student majoring natural science said trash accumulated will erode coastal and river ecosystem.
Another senior high school student, Kathleen Yonathan, expressed her worries about the environmental impact when city garbage increase rapidly until the landfill cannot hold anymore.
"It could cover the view of the city and give to global warming as well," Kathleen said.
Meanwhile, Jane Valent, 10th grade student of Tarakanita 2 high school said the youth must involve them self to manage the waste so that it won't cause any environment.
"There are many methods available to recycle things. We can re-create unused items to ornamental or some stuff that marketable and make cash," Jane said.
According to Jakarta Sanitation Agency, the Indonesia's capital produces six thousand ton of garbage per day by 12 million of its population.
