"We give assistance not only to the military but also to any party as this is part of our cooperation with the government," Adrianto said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President director of PT Freeport Indonesia Adrianto Maghribie said here on Friday that the company would continue to provide assistance for the Indonesian military (TNI) and police. He said after launching a Mine Indonesia 2006 that the assistance would not be given in the form of cash but logistical supplies such as food and housing. "We give assistance not only to the military but also to any party as this is part of our cooperation with the government," he said. He declined to mention how much Freeport had prepared for the assistance program for 2006. He said the logistic assistance was needed because of the location of the mining site which is difficult to reach. "In Papau it is difficult to get everything. Only our vehicles can go as far as the mining location," he said. The commissioner of PT Freeport Indonesia AR, Soehoed, said that the company indeed gave assistance in the form of logistic supplies to the TNI and the police to help them secure the location from possible security disruptions. He said the assistance was taken from the company`s social contribution funds amounting to one percent of its annual net profit. In its annual report in 2004 one of the world`s largest mining company produced 1.1 billion tons of copper and 1.5 milion ounces of gold.(*)
