Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Idul Fitri, the celebration that marks the end of the Islamic fasting month, is the best moment to unify the nation, according to President-elect Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi.

"After fasting for an entire month, let us forgive each other and reunite to build our beloved and great nation," Jokowi stated at the Jakarta City Hall on Monday.

The president-elect noted that Idul Fitri, more commonly known as Lebaran in Indonesia, should be the best period for reconciliation in this political year after the presidential election.

"If there were differences during the presidential election, let us take this holy occasion of Idul Fitri to reconcile and reunite to build our great nation, the nation of Indonesia," Jokowi emphasized.

He offered Idul Fitri prayers at the City Hall on Monday morning and then held an open house at his Taman Suropati official residence for numerous guests and neighbors.
