Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono said Indonesia successfully came out of the economic crisis in 2008 not because of sheer luck, but because of the hard work put in by the government and the private sector.

"The achievement was not due to luck, but because of the hard work that helped boost the country`s gross domestic product to 6 percent," Boediono stated when opening the Wharton global alumni forum here on Friday.
He added that the government had privatized many companies and later made them public companies in an effort to improve their performance.
"Six of our state-owned firms are included among the 500 global companies in the Fortune Magazine," Boediono stated.
He noted that there was a lot of potential for growth, particularly in the consumption, infrastructure and natural resources sectors, in the future.
Citing an example, the vice president said Indonesia consumed about 7 kg of meat per capita per annum, which was much less than Malaysia`s 47 kg meat per capita per annum.
"Indonesia badly needs investments for the development of its infrastructure. It also needs an additional 25,000 MW of power in 2020, which must all come from renewable energy," Boediono stated.
Besides, Indonesia also needs 10,000 km of additional roads, railways, new airports and seaports in the coming years, he added. (*)
